What a good homepage actually has to do

A homepage has about eight seconds to answer three questions. If it can't, no amount of media spend will rescue it.

What a good homepage actually has to do

A homepage has one job: help a stranger decide, quickly, whether you are worth their attention. Everything else is decoration.

Answer three questions above the fold

What is this? Is it for me? What do I do next? If a visitor cannot answer all three without scrolling, the page is not finished.

Sequence the scroll like a conversation

Problem, solution, proof, process, price signal, action. That order mirrors how a good sales conversation actually goes, and it keeps people moving.

Show the work

Real projects, real numbers and real client language beat stock photography and adjectives. Where you cannot share a number, describe the situation and what changed.

Keep one primary action

Repeat the same call to action at natural decision points instead of introducing new ones. Consistency reads as confidence.

THE TAKEAWAY

Clarity beats cleverness. A plain homepage that answers the right questions will out-convert a beautiful one that does not.
